Are you an app addict? Forget Angry Birds and Candy Crush Saga for a while and download some of the apps that are on offer from our science ejournal and database providers.
There are several PubMed apps available - here's a review that compares six of them for the iPad and iPhone, and here's the page where you can download some of them
The Royal Society of Chemistry has also made its journal content available via an app - details here http://www.rsc.org/publishing/platform/rscmobile.asp
Take ScienceDirect with you wherever you go with their apps for iPad/iPhone and Android
Note that to access full text articles you may have to register your account from a Birkbeck PC initially, so that they know you are a registered student or member of staff.
EndNote user? You can also take your references with you on the move, or add to your EndNote library with the app for iPad. This one costs £6.99.
If you're looking for a job in science, the Nature jobs app is free and available for iPhone/iPad and Android.
Do you have a favourite science journal or database app? Let us know!

Science Magazine online
Unfortunately we have had to cancel our online subscription to Science magazine, as the cost of renewing for 2013 has doubled from $3,000 to over $6,000. We have access to back volumes up to 2006 via our subscrition to JSTOR and we still have a print subscription - copies can be found up on Level 4 of the Library. Academic staff can request for articles to be scanned by the Library in order to make them available via Moodle.
We hope that we may be able to resume our subscription in 2014.
