Wellcome Images: Historical images from the Wellcome Library collections - Tibetan Buddhist paintings, ancient Sanskrit manuscripts written on palm leaves, beautifully illuminated Persian books and much more.
The Biomedical Collection holds over 40 000 high-quality images from the clinical and biomedical sciences. Selected from the UK's leading teaching hospitals and research institutions, it covers disease, surgery, general healthcare and sciences from genetics to neuroscience including the full range of imaging techniques. See also the Wellcome Image awards 2009 for the latest award winning images.
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is on at the Natural History Museum until 11th April 2010 and is well worth a visit. Keeping up to date with alerting services
There are a plethora of ways to keep up to date with the journal literature in your subject area - a few alerting sites you might want to investigate are listed below.
- TicTocs - a journal alerting service that covers hundreds of journals from different publishers http://www.tictocs.ac.uk/
- Zetoc - a journal alerting service from the British Library. Go to http://zetoc.mimas.ac.uk/ and click on Alerts
- PubCrawler - an alerting service for PubMed and Genbank http://pubcrawler.gen.tcd.ie/
- ScienceDirect also gives you the opportunity to set up alerts to the journals it contains . Go to http://www.sciencedirect.com/ and click on the Alerts link
- Use the Web of Science to create journal and search alerts. Go to http://isiknowledge.com/wos Sign in to create a profile and you can then create your journal alerts and search alerts

Film and Sound Online
Film & Sound Online is a set of collections of film, video and sound material. Several hundred hours of high-quality material are available for download, either in full or as segments, and can be used freely in learning, teaching and research. The collection includes film from organisations such as The Biochemical Society, St George's Hospital Medical School and the Wellcome.
